The 2012 Suffolk Business Exhibition – a joint venture between Ipswich & Suffolk Small Business Association (ISSBA), Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and Menta – attracted a bumper crowd for a lively day of debate, training, meeting up and doing business.

We’re told by many exhibitors and visitors that this year’s Suffolk Business Exhibition was their “best ever”. That’s good to hear of course! But equally, we do need feedback that reflects a wide spectrum of views. It’s only by finding out what worked well for you – and what you might like to see changed or improved for SBE13 that we can make sure that the event is truly meeting everyone’s needs. Can we ask you to take a few minutes to fill in the form below and send it back to us by the middle of May, in order that we can take onboard your thoughts and review what might need to be changed. Thank you. (please click on 'Read More' to view the form)

Members are now able to add their own news stories to the ISSBA website. All articles are moderated by the committee so they won't appear immediately - remember to represent your company professionally at all times. This is an ideal place to submit news, press releases and information about your company.

ISSBA are moving with the times and have produced a digital version of the Suffolk Business Exhibition Brochure - click the link below to view the stand locations and find contact details for exhibitiors.

The digital brochure is a flipping book - you need to click on the bottom right to turn the pages.

Despite tough economic conditions, sponsors continue to show strong support for Suffolk’s leading business exhibition.

The Suffolk Business Exhibition 2012, taking place on Wednesday 25th April at Trinity Park Conference Centre in Ipswich, is organised by ISSBA (Ipswich & Suffolk Small Business Association) in partnership with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and for the first time, Menta.

Amongst those to back the popular event are Archant Suffolk (publishers of EADT and Evening Star titles), Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council, Scrutton Bland, Jackamans Solicitors, Basepoint, Dummett Copp, FSB (Federation of Small Businesses), React Computer Partnership, Penn Commercial, PKF Accountants and business advisers and New Media Business Group.

The FSB organised a meeting between local MPs and the major banks in Mundford on 13th January.

This was a very interesting meeting with the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Chloe Smith, giving an overview of the British economy and a summary of the coalition government’s policies to help encourage small and medium sized businesses. The local MPs each gave an overview of the problems experienced by their constituents. Senior representatives of the major banks summarised the current approach of their respective organisations.

The meeting ended with a question and answer session where members of the audience addressed specific issues to the panel. For more details of the meeting, see the pdf above.

All stands in the Conference Centre are now sold out, only stands in Trinity Rooms remain.  These are 2m x 1m spaces, supplied with a table and tablecloth.  Only those around the perimeter are supplied with electricity in this room.  Start up businesses are encouraged to book and take advantage of the Training Voucher and ISSBA membership offer as well as the opportunity to take up Suffolk Chamber’s EEP offer.  Please click on the SBE 2012 link in the menu above to view a list of available stands.

Don't miss ISSBA's next event on Wednesday 29th February at 6pm.  In the Hotseat is a 'Question Time' style event giving you the opportunity to grill our panel of experts from the world of banking, finance, pensions and insurance.

Confirmed speakers include Steve Branney, RBS’s Director of Business and Commercial Banking in Suffolk, Katy Ford, Chief Executive of Foundation East – a not for profit organisation that makes loans to small businesses, Ian Bell, Sales Director of Willis Commercial, Tim Mulley from Scrutton Bland and other well-known names from the region’s Finance sector.

Ever had a question that you’ve wished you could ask, but never had the chance to do so? – Now’s your chance!  This event is open to both members and non members. Click here to book your place.

Roger Barcham, a long time member of ISSBA, has been appointed the new Chair with immediate effect.

A member recently said to me that the reason they so enjoyed ISSBA events was that they were relaxed, informal and very friendly.  Naturally the ISSBA committee (all volunteers with businesses of their own) were delighted to get this feedback.

ISSBA has been supporting the local small business community for 25 years and what better way to celebrate than to invite members, old and new, to an evening of dinner and entertainment to commemorate the occasion.  Photographs taken of the event by ISSBA member Allison Johnson from Allison Johnson Pictures are now available to view on our photo gallery.

More than 50 local business people gathered at the Holiday Inn, Ipswich last night for ISSBA’ s  annual ‘Stir It and Stump It’ evening, where members come together to network and listen to presentations from fellow ISSBA members.

ISSBA has been supporting the local small business community for 25 years and in recognition of this, the committee are delighted to invite all existing and previous members to join in an evening's celebration and entertainment to commemorate the occasion.

ISSBA hosted its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday June 8th at the Novotel in Ipswich.  As well as the formal part of the evening, attendees also enjoyed networking with buffet sponsored by ISSBA member, Remedy for Business and an interesting presentation by guest speaker, Paul Clement, Director of Ipswich Central, the body that manages the Ipswich Business Improvement District (BID).

As part of this year’s Suffolk Business Exhibition, committee members Vivienne Maunder and Roger Barcham organised a charity raffle which raised £587.66 for East Anglia's Children's Hospice.

Social networking - just a few years ago we'd have thought it was a drink in the pub with a few friends but it's now become a preferred way of doing business for lots of different organisations in many different fields. On Wednesday evening at IP-City Centre more than 40 business people turned out to hear Adam Gray, Owner of Adam Gray Social Media Ltd, give an outstanding presentation about one of the hottest business topics.

The room fell silent as we heard about the relative merits of Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn, the hundreds of other options for promoting and opening up "conversations" with potential customers. When the presentation ended, the questions came thick and fast.  The result - 40 or more business people went away armed with the information they needed to go out there and think seriously about developing a workable 'Social Media Strategy', all were inspired to tweet, twitter, join LinkedIn & Facebook and converse with the best of them. Ready to share, help, advise and give but definitely not to promote overtly or to sell directly!  The idea being to engage with people as you would if networking face to face.

Many thanks to Adam Gray for an absolutely outstanding presentation and for dealing with wide-ranging questions coming from all directions and levels of understanding with complete honesty and clarity. All in all, one of the best events to be hosted by ISSBA and part of a new
trend towards a more business-focussed approach in ISSBA's 2011 calendar of events.

Without the kindness of our sponsors these events can't happen so a big thank you to our event sponsors; The Writing House, The Training Experts and NWES.
