A member recently said to me that the reason they so enjoyed ISSBA events was that they were relaxed, informal and very friendly.  Naturally the ISSBA committee (all volunteers with businesses of their own) were delighted to get this feedback.

ISSBA has been supporting the local small business community for 25 years and what better way to celebrate than to invite members, old and new, to an evening of dinner and entertainment to commemorate the occasion.  Photographs taken of the event by ISSBA member Allison Johnson from Allison Johnson Pictures are now available to view on our photo gallery.

More than 50 local business people gathered at the Holiday Inn, Ipswich last night for ISSBA’ s  annual ‘Stir It and Stump It’ evening, where members come together to network and listen to presentations from fellow ISSBA members.

ISSBA has been supporting the local small business community for 25 years and in recognition of this, the committee are delighted to invite all existing and previous members to join in an evening's celebration and entertainment to commemorate the occasion.

ISSBA hosted its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday June 8th at the Novotel in Ipswich.  As well as the formal part of the evening, attendees also enjoyed networking with buffet sponsored by ISSBA member, Remedy for Business and an interesting presentation by guest speaker, Paul Clement, Director of Ipswich Central, the body that manages the Ipswich Business Improvement District (BID).

As part of this year’s Suffolk Business Exhibition, committee members Vivienne Maunder and Roger Barcham organised a charity raffle which raised £587.66 for East Anglia's Children's Hospice.

Social networking - just a few years ago we'd have thought it was a drink in the pub with a few friends but it's now become a preferred way of doing business for lots of different organisations in many different fields. On Wednesday evening at IP-City Centre more than 40 business people turned out to hear Adam Gray, Owner of Adam Gray Social Media Ltd, give an outstanding presentation about one of the hottest business topics.

The room fell silent as we heard about the relative merits of Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn, the hundreds of other options for promoting and opening up "conversations" with potential customers. When the presentation ended, the questions came thick and fast.  The result - 40 or more business people went away armed with the information they needed to go out there and think seriously about developing a workable 'Social Media Strategy', all were inspired to tweet, twitter, join LinkedIn & Facebook and converse with the best of them. Ready to share, help, advise and give but definitely not to promote overtly or to sell directly!  The idea being to engage with people as you would if networking face to face.

Many thanks to Adam Gray for an absolutely outstanding presentation and for dealing with wide-ranging questions coming from all directions and levels of understanding with complete honesty and clarity. All in all, one of the best events to be hosted by ISSBA and part of a new
trend towards a more business-focussed approach in ISSBA's 2011 calendar of events.

Without the kindness of our sponsors these events can't happen so a big thank you to our event sponsors; The Writing House, The Training Experts and NWES.

A very successful Meet the Members night was held at Venue 77 on Thursday 27th January.  Both established members, new members and those looking to join ISSBA enjoyed the opportunity to network informally over drinks and nibbles in the comfortable surroundings.  Chairman Chris Barnard gave a run down on the upcoming events and attendees were able to use the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about ISSBA’s forthcoming Suffolk Business Exhibition on April 13th.

Dave Lucas, a talented Essex-based caricaturist, took the opportunity to present the Chairman with his likeness from the evening – which will be displayed here soon!

This year’s Suffolk Business Exhibition 2011 is taking place on Wednesday 13th April from 2pm – 7pm at Trinity Park Conference Centre.

Take thirty thirsty ISSBA members, a table of nibbles and delicious Memorable Cheeses, one knowledgeable expert and six types of wines and what do you have?  A very enjoyable networking event with a cheese and wine tasting thrown in!

Thank you to Remedy and The Training Experts for their sponsorship and to everyone who helped to make the event at Epsilon House such a successful evening.  Jonathan Hare from Wine of Interest interpreted the brief of “Wines for Clients ….and Family and Friends” with his usual expertise and came up with three whites and three reds, the merits of which were hotly debated by those testing their taste-buds.

Any clients benefiting from wine as gifts this Christmas should be very appreciative!

Pictures are now online in the photo gallery found under the events tab at the top of the page.

CB_PhotoISSBA is delighted to welcome Chris Barnard, Managing Director of The Training Experts Ltd, as the new Chair.

Trinity Park is offering ISSBA members a special small unit size of 3mx3m square suitable for small businesses and their budget at the Suffolk Show on 2nd and 3rd June.  Minimum stand sizes are generally larger than this.

Three parliamentary contenders for the Ipswich seat – Chris Mole (Labour), Ben Gummer (Conservative) and Mark Dyson (Lib Dem) - will be facing the audience along with Duncan Brodie, business editor of the East Anglian Daily Times and Julie West, who as chief executive of Tastes of Anglia is the voice of regional food and drink producers.  In true “Question Time” style, the panellists have no prior knowledge of the questions.  The debate is being chaired by experienced broadcaster and independent facilitator, Rachel Sloane.  Doors open at 12.30 at Trinity Park on 28th April and it’s first come, first served for ISSBA and Chamber of Commerce members.  If you can’t get a seat, then all’s not lost because the debate is also being relayed live into the main exhibition hall.

The Suffolk Business Exhibition 2010 has provided a downloadable invite which can be forwarded to help the success of the event by sending onto your colleagues and partners, simply download the PDF file and email on to all your contacts. Click here to get your invite
