Member of the Month - October 2018

Our October Member of the Month is All Manor of Events. Read about their journey from taking an empty barn and turning it into the stunning venue it is today.

In October 2004 we had our own wedding in what is now called Chestnut Barn. At the time, it was an empty shell of a concrete floor, engineering brick walls and a leaky asbestos roof so not quite what you would imagine as being the ideal wedding venue. So we hired in a marquee lining, carpet, bar, dance floor, caterers etc and created our perfect day. At our wedding breakfast, we sat looking around and I said to Andy “imagine if we could do this for other people”. Two years later, we took out a loan, had a marquee liner made, bought some tables and chairs and spent an evening in the workshop making a “this should do it” bar. We had a couple of loos by the farm office across the yard which we painted pink and blue and got ready to welcome our first couples for their wedding days! Somehow we managed to persuade 6 couples that they should book us for their big day and since then we have ploughed everything back in to the business to build it up and create a venue that we are really proud of.

All Manor of Events CourtyardIt’s been a really interesting journey seeing trends and fashions change over the years. We have learnt so many invaluable lessons, mainly the hard way but they are all lessons that have enabled us to improve things with and pass on to our team along the way. Andy and I have always adopted the attitude that we would never ask any member of staff to do anything that we wouldn’t be prepared to do ourselves and we have great respect for every member of our team. In this industry, teamwork is an absolute essential and we are really lucky to have a fantastic team.

One of the things that Andy and I regularly do is think about what we would like if we were guests at an event here. We are both animal lovers so we now have a small flock of Hebridean sheep, two pygmy goats and five gorgeous alpacas. It’s great being able to share these all with guests and we love it when people show an interest, which happens a lot. We now sometimes wonder if the alpacas are what people come here for rather than anything else!

This year, we embarked on a project to re-furbish a barn which we have used since our 10th Wedding anniversary in 2014. It’s been our most popular Ceremony room over the last 4 years and now even more so that it has had a complete over-haul. We were really pleased to welcome ISSBA for the monthly networking morning and having an opportunity to all the lovely people who came, what we have done. As a new part of the business, offering meeting, conference, training and away day space, we are excited to see how this develops over the next few years. We would like to extend a big thank you to Merie Sennett for giving us this opportunity and for making us feel so welcome with ISSBA.
