Chair Report - November 2018

ISSBA Chair, Samuel Stamp-Dod, offers a snapshot of the latest ISSBA news.

Samuel Stamp DodHello all. We’re getting towards the end of 2018 but things are as busy as ever at ISSBA!

Stands for Anglia Business Exhibition 2019 are selling fast so make sure you book yours soon so you don’t miss out. There are also some sponsorship opportunities available if you would like to really maximise your exposure. ABE19 will take place on 15th May 2019 at Trinity Park. Visit to book or for further information. If you are interested in taking up one of our sponsorship opportunities, please call Kim Brown on 01473 927331 or Sonia Shelcott on 01473 410278.

Some committee news for you this month as our Treasurer, Chris Smith, has decided to step down due to work commitments. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his hard work, he has done a fantastic job. I would also like to introduce our new Treasurer, Dan Hines from BDO LLP. You can find out more about Dan on the committee page of the ISSBA website. Dan has kindly written this month’s Business Focus piece titled ‘The Five Habits of Highly Effective Companies’.

Our new Recommend a Friend scheme is starting to take off, it is great to see ISSBA members benefiting from this. Any current ISSBA member will get one month's free membership for each new member they recommend, plus the new member also gets one free month, so Win-Win! There are no limits to how many referrals each ISSBA member can make as long as you have a current, paid up membership, so if you bring in 12 new members you'll get a whole year for free!

We are looking forward to our Anglia Business Spotlight event on 22nd November at Wherstead Park, this is always a fantastic event. Thank you to Co-op Secure Response for sponsoring and to Rachel Sloane who will be conducting the interviews. Don’t forget that ISSBA members can bring a guest free of charge when they book and pay for two places. Book now.

Our November Member of the Month is Mike Bernard who has been an active member of ISSBA for many years. Mike shares his fascinating journey from early career, travelling the world and then becoming an Independent Distributor for Utility Warehouse. Read his article here.

GoCardless is making the renewal process much easier for many of our members. If you haven’t signed up yet, either let us know on or keep an eye on your inbox for an authorisation request. GoCardless is a direct debit system fully protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee and means that you never need to worry about forgetting to renew again.  By signing up to this you will help your committee save valuable time in chasing renewals, so please, if you aren’t already signed up, please do!

From January we are planning to double our monthly events to include some evening social events.  If you have suggestions as to what you’d like to do and where you’d like to go, please do let us know.  If you run a business that would benefit from our members visiting, we would love to work with you so please do get in touch!

Don’t forget that if you have any suggestions/comments or would like to be considered for a future Member of the Month feature, please get in touch on
