Member of the Month - November 2019

Our November Member of the Month is Suffolk Libraries. They update us on the range of facilities that Suffolk Libraries has available for local businesses.

Suffolk Libraries - The Hub at Ipswich County Library

Many people’s traditional view of a library is still of a place of revered silence filled with books although more are now realising what important community hubs they have become. A recent impact Suffolk Libraries Nov 19report into three of the core activities delivered in Suffolk’s libraries shows what a valuable contribution they make to wellbeing of local people.

In 2017 Suffolk Libraries became a National Portfolio Organisation, gaining funding from Arts Council England to help young people develop arts and culture activities in libraries from 2018-22. This enables us not only to promote the libraries but also gives valuable opportunities to the young people of Suffolk to expand and develop their creativity.

Suffolk Libraries Photo 2Most people would still be surprised by The Hub (also known as the Carnegie Room) situated on the top floor of Ipswich County Library. It’s a quiet, calm space which is bright and light and designed to be open and inviting to those using the facilities, but you won’t find many books on this floor. The Hub has recently been reconfigured, we listened to our users and have made the space even more user friendly for you.

The Hub caters for a diverse range of activities and audiences, all the rooms can be configured to meet customer requirements. Each room is fully equipped with presentation facilities, the Wolsey Room has an 84 inch fully interactive screen, you can even use this to create audience polls to gain immediate feedback from your audience.

We’re keen to embrace the budding programmers of the future and we’re proud that The Hub is home to one our regular Code Club and in addition to CoderDojos. Various workshops take place in The Hub so look out for those too. We have a Youth Takeover on 9th November, this looks to be an exciting day with lots of Suffolk Libraries Photo 1activities on offer and all delivered by the Suffolk Libraries Youth Council.

In addition, we can facilitate a range of business needs: as part of the Online Centre Network we are a testing centre for the ECS card with staff trained to invigilate, we can facilitate Visa applications for those wishing to remain in the UK and also provide live streaming and webinars as well as referring business queries to the New Anglia Growth Hub.

Or if you simply need a space to hold a meeting, one-to-one or away day our space is flexible and can be configured to suit individual needs. For more information visit www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/hub or email us on hub@suffolklibraries.co.uk if you’d like to arrange a visit.

The Hub is run by Suffolk Libraries which is an independent and charitable organisation. Suffolk Libraries has a contract with the county council to run the library service but is always looking for additional income to help support and develop the county’s library service.
