Groundwork East – The environmental charity helping businesses reach net zero

Groundwork EastGroundwork East has been changing lives and changing places since 1985. Our mission revolves around empowering local communities to take charge of their lives, green spaces and local environments.

We know we’ll only achieve our vision by working with passionate individuals and community organisations, proactive public & private sector organisations and innovative local businesses.

We’re dedicated to creating a future where every neighbourhood is vibrant and green, every community is strong and able to shape its own destiny and no-one is held back by their background or circumstances. A ‘just transition’ to an inclusive, net-zero economy must tackle inequality and provide a springboard for better work and healthier, happier lives in the places that need it most.

We believe that businesses are a key and vital component of communities and our team of sustainability consultants can work closely with you to help determine, understand and meet your sustainability, net zero and carbon reduction goals. Further information on our services can be found here.

Whether that be through the development of a carbon reduction plan, engaging and educating your staff or joining the local Suffolk Carbon Charter accreditation scheme; being more than just an award scheme in promoting a membership and networking culture, such as the recent Summer event, where learnt experiences are shared to the benefit of members in their carbon management journey.

We are also able to help businesses engage with and support the local communities in which they operate to thrive and prosper in a more sustainable way through our community and education, training and skills, youth and landscape architecture teams. Recent activities include our yellow fish campaign which educates communities and businesses on the importance of only putting ‘rain down the drain’.  As part of the campaign, we work with highways so we are able to mark public drains with a semi-permanent yellow fish symbol to remind the local community that anything entering the drain will end up in their local river. Postcards and information leaflets are displayed in the local area explaining what the fish is and why it is so important that we raise awareness. We have covered several rivers in Suffolk, including the River Waveney, River Ore, River Gipping and River Orwell.  As part of the Yellow Fish project we have delivered visits to businesses that have an increased risk of causing water pollution due to the storage or use of chemicals and oils. We were able to offer advice to these businesses to ensure they were meeting the legal requirements and suggest additional things they can put in place to prevent water pollution incidents occurring.

We often run funded services on behalf of Suffolk local authorities so please do get in touch as you may be eligible for free support and funding towards your carbon reduction and net zero journey.

Whether you’re driven by the race to net zero, COP28 or your CEO, we’ll work closely with you to meet your sustainability goals, in a way which is impactful and achievable for you. Our team of business consultants provide a total solution for your organisation’s compliance, resilience, and sustainability needs. By choosing Groundwork as your sustainable business consultant you can be assured that your business operates safely, efficiently and responds to climate pressures and changes in legal requirements. As a charity, we reinvest every penny back into the local community, so by working with us you know you’re helping to build a stronger, greener future.
